Venez a Vevey

Though I'd passed through via train, I had not actually visited the town of Vevey. Located on Lake Leman, Vevey is east of Lausanne and was founded in the Middle Ages. Today, it is famous as the headquarters of Nestle.

(Above) Town Square area

(Above) Looking back at the town with the mountains behind it

(Above) Many of the buildings were brightly painted, like this rainbow-colored one

(Above) I was impressed with the amount of small shops and boutiques that seemed to be thriving

(Above) And the city itself is quite beautiful. Check out this architecturally elaborate storefront, and the lobsters painted behind along the exposed wall.

(Above) And painting walls seems to be a popular thing to do

(Above) We ate at this kind of Italian cafe which apparently has the best "cappuccino" in town...their use of air quotes, not mine.

(Above) And no town on Lake Leman would be complete without a walkway along the lake

(Above) Looking back at the docks

(Above) Charlie Chaplin spent the last years of his life in Corsier, a town nearby. The people of Vevey have also erected a statue in his honor...

(Above) Did I mention there's a giant fork in the water?

(Above) A little more about the fork...it's 26 feet tall and was supposed to be temporary but the locals loved it, so it stays. It is located directly in front of the Nestle Alimentarium, a rather cool food museum (check out my next post for pictures).
