The Roses Mercat

We stumbled across this random-looking market. It's not too flashy from the outside...

(Below) ...but the inside was really cool. Check out the photos I took:

Roses: Street Scenes

Part of our full-day in Roses was spent wandering around the streets. Here's the downtown/tourist area.

Back to the beach!

La Ciutadella of Roses

Our first stop was La Ciutadella - an indoor & outdoor history museum which stood between our hotel and downtown Roses. We got there before the museum even open and were waiting when the doors opened.

(Below) Inside the museum was sleek and new with lots of interesting information.

(Below) I really loved this scale-model of what the structure looked like a couple of hundred years ago.

We spent most of the morning walking around the ruins outside. Very little is roped off and the site is quite large itself.

Roses: This is where we'd rest our heads

I would recommend Hotel Casa del Mar to anyone who stays in Roses. It's family run and was only slightly more expensive than a hostel in Barcelona. Plus, there was a continental breakfast every morning. It's quite close to the down-town area as well.

(Below) The rooms were sparsely decorated but really clean and spacious.

(Below) Our room was in the back of the building and had this view of a community garden.

Roses Roses Roses: First Night

From the moment we could first see a hint of the city across the fields, it was clear that Roses was an absolute dream. I'm not even that much of a beach-person, but I was still struck by the beauty of this town.

(Below) We arrived in Roses late. After checking into our Hotel (more on that in the next post), we went in search for dinner. We ended up at Llevant which is among a dozen restaurants with views of the coast. The waiters were very attentive and the food was superb.
